Glenavy
DSC0559002

Glenavy village, County Antrim.

Glenavy War Memorial is situated at the western edge of the village, at the junction of Main Street and the Crumlin and Belfast Roads. This is one of a number of Public War Memorials for which it has proven impossible to obtain any definite unveiling or dedication dates.

In 1919 a group of residents approached the Antrim Rural District Council requesting the erection of a War Memorial. It was mentioned in a street directory in 1920. There appears to be no further information until a passing reference to its existence in 1930.

Over the past few years the memorial has been vandalised several times.  All political representatives in the area have condemned these attacks.
